A magistrate court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted a N500,000 bail to Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives, who assaulted a bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
The member of the House of Representatives was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on assault and threat to life.
The charges against the federal lawmaker were filed by the office of the inspector general of police.
In response to the three-count charge, Ikwechegh pleaded not guilty.
News About Nigeria earlier reported that Ikwechegh had on Sunday assaulted Abuwatseya, who had come to deliver some snails to his apartment in Abuja.
In a viral video filmed by the driver, the lawmaker had threatened to beat him and make him disappear without anyone doing anything.
He had also boasted that even if the driver called the Inspector General of Police, nothing would happen, adding that he would lock him up in his generator house.
He said, “I am not going to call my policemen to beat you up, I will do that myself. I will show that I am a big brother to you, tie you up, lie you down and put you in my generator house. Do you know where you are? Because you saw me sitting outside here. Look at this monkey.
“Do you know who I am I just slapped you and there’s nothing you will do. My name is Honourable Alex Ikwechegh, tell them (public) I slapped you. Call the Inspector General of Police that I slapped you, let him come. Record me very well,” he boasted.
