Detain Lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh For Assault On Bolt Driver

A viral video circulating on social media captures an incident involving Alex Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives for the Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency in Imo State, allegedly assaulting an e-hailing driver outside his Abuja residence.

The incident reportedly began when the driver arrived at Ikwechegh’s home to deliver an item, News About Nigeria gathered.

According to the video, tensions escalated when the driver requested Ikwechegh to come to his car to collect the delivery.

Ikwechegh reacted aggressively, slapping the driver three times and verbally berating him for what he perceived as disrespect. “Do you know who I am? I’m a Senator of this Republic,” Ikwechegh is heard saying in the video.

Throughout the exchange, the driver maintained a calm tone, even as Ikwechegh tore his shirt, broke his phone, and refused payment for the delivery.

The lawmaker further threatened the driver, suggesting he could make him “disappear” without consequence. He continued to boast of his position, stating, “I will show you that I’m a big brother to you. I will slap the hell out of you.”

The video also shows Ikwechegh calling the person who had sent the driver for delivery, hurling insults about the driver’s conduct.

The driver, who recorded parts of the altercation, described the events in a follow-up video, stating, “This is where I am. I’m actually with one man. I got a request for delivery to him. As you can see, I don’t have a shirt. He shredded my clothes and he slapped me three times.

“The man is sitting outside here and there is nothing I can do about it. My phone is broken because I was videoing what he was doing and he dragged the phone from me.

“All ATWAN members please come to Maitama, back to the Farmers’ Market. I have not even ended the ride. Look at me and this is the man seated. This is my shirt and I have collected three slaps from him without saying a word. He has been slapping me. He has insulted me.

“Everybody that is an ATWAN member should please come to Maitama, Labida Court, beside Farmers’ Market.”

Netizens have responded with concern and outrage over the video, with many calling for accountability.
