Gunmen Kidnap FRSC Official In Enugu, Demand N50 Million Ransom

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Emeason Chima, has been kidnapped by gunmen in Enugu State.

News About Nigeria gathered that Chima, attached to the RS4.211 Ugbokolo unit, was abducted on Saturday near Maduka University in Nsukka.

The gunmen are reportedly demanding a ransom of N50 million for his release.

Sources within the FRSC confirmed that Chima was alone in his car at the time of the attack.

An internal memo circulated within the agency, signed by Ugbokolo Unit Commander Emmanuel Al-Hassan, reported that the kidnappers had used Chima’s phone to make their ransom demands.

It further explained that Chima was attacked on the Enugu-Nsukka Road near the OPI junction while driving a Toyota sedan. “The kidnappers, using the officer’s phone, demanded N50 million in ransom,” Al-Hassan added.

“The Command Is In Receipt Of Information About The Kidnap Of SRMA Emeason Chima,” Emmanuel Al-Hassan, Ugbokolo unit commander, said in the memo.

“Place of Incidence: After Maduka University, Nsukka Enugu Road through OPI junction, in Enugu State. Information extracted so far confirmed that the staff was driving alone in a Toyota saloon car when he was kidnapped.

“The unit commander has already been contacted by the kidnappers using the staff phone, where a demand of N50 million ransom has been made.

“Further details will be made available as events unfolds.  This is forwarded for your information and further guide sir.”

FG has attributed much of the violence to the pro-Biafra group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which the group denies.
