Billionaire Adeleke Announces Completion Of $2 Billion Power Plant By January 2025

Nigerian-American businessman and father of superstar Davido, Adedeji Adeleke, has announced that his new $2 billion power plant will be operational by January 2025.

Speaking at the Seventh Day Adventist General Conference Annual Council on Wednesday, October 15, 2024, Adeleke shared that the 1,250 MW facility will be Nigeria’s largest thermal power plant, which will significantly boost the nation’s energy capacity.

He also said that he generates 15 percent of Nigeria’s electricity.

Detailing the challenging process of obtaining the necessary environmental permits, Adeleke said that one official claimed it would “never see the light of day,” which prompted the businessman to turn to prayer to overcome the difficulties.

He also noted that his firm, Pacific Energy, collaborates closely with Chinese engineering companies on power project design and construction.

“I’m in the electricity business; I own power plants. I generate about 15 percent of Nigeria’s electricity. I have Chinese engineering companies that work for me. I am building the biggest thermal power plant in Nigeria to be launched in January 2025. It’s a 1250MW power plant,” he said.

This new plant, located in a rural area in Ondo State, has already generated jobs for over 1,000 local residents.

Unfortunately, the project faced setbacks when thieves stole turbine components valued at $5 million, causing delays.

However, Adeleke confirmed that despite this incident, the plant is on track and nearing completion.

In August, News About Nigeria reported that Adeleke donated N1 billion to the Centenary Endowment Fund of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church in Lagos.

In his address, during a special Thanksgiving service held on Sunday at the church’s headquarters, in memory of his late mother, Esther Adeleke, Adeleke revealed that the contribution was made to honour his mother, who was a respected figure within the C&S Church.

“On behalf of our late mother, Senior Mother in Israel, the late Mrs. Esther Adeleke, we want to contribute the sum of N1 billion to the centenary endowment fund,” he stated.
