'Holding Our National Team Hostage Unlawful' - Sports Minister Condemns Libya Authorities Action Against Eagles

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has offered his full support and that of the Ministry to the Super Eagles ahead of their match against Libya in their bid to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), News About Nigeria reports.

The minister made this known in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Diana-Mary Nsan, on Thursday.

He urged the Nigerian Super Eagles to gun for victory against Libya on Friday.

Enoh also warned of complacency against the Mediterranean Knights, ahead of both teams’ clash in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, adding that the Super Eagles must give it their best and ensure they gain the three points needed to keep them on top of their group.

Enoh, who noted that the Solid start of the Super Eagles has put them in a favourable position ahead of the AFCON games, urged the players never to undermine their opponents.

According to him, the Mediterranean Knights will aim to defy expectations, so that chance must not be given to them.

He stated, “Your solid start in the qualifiers has put you in a favourable position to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament.

“Nonetheless, you must guard your place, as the Mediterranean Knights will aim to defy expectations, seeking at least a draw in Uyo. Never undermine your opponents.

“The nation will be rooting for you; make us proud, and good luck.

Recall that Super Eagles Head Coach, Augustine Eguavoen, is targeting a maximum of six points from the double header fixtures.

“There are possibilities and opportunities for us to sail home at the end of these two matches, and we will do our best to take our chances and have the ticket,” Eguavoen said.

So far, Nigeria has four points from their two matches, one point ahead of Benin Republic and two ahead of Rwanda. The Eagles will go to 10 points with a double win over Libya.
