Dangote Urges NNPCL To Halt Fuel Imports, Says Refinery Can Meet Nigeria’s Daily Demand

The federal government disclosed that Dangote Refinery has been authorised to be the only supplier of jet fuel, otherwise known as Jet A1, to aircraft companies operating in the country.

News About Nigeria reports that the approval was made public by the minister of aviation, Festus Keyamo, during an interview on Channels TV on Tuesday.

Giving details on the development, the minister noted that the airline operators consented to let the refinery serve as their sole supplier of jet fuel, with his approval and cooperation.

He said, “The airline operators just met recently. With my blessing, it’s a decision from the airline operators in Nigeria that they should only buy from Dangote refinery Jet A1. You can see that yesterday we started a naira-for-crude purchase with Dangote. It’s all Naira, no dollar component.”

The minister further stated that the timing is good as Dangote and the federal government recently put the naira-for-crude agreement into effect.

He further explained that with this new arrangement, the price will no longer be subjected to the varying factors of the international market.

“The price will no longer be subjected to the varying factors of the international market or the headwinds of oil prices in the international market. It will be in local currency so we can be clear as to the cost of it. We will buy in naira. I’m sure we are going to have access to cheaper Jet A1 fuel,” Keyamo said.

Recall that Dangote Refinery began operation in April 2024 with the production of jet fuel and diesel, with the diesel hitting the local market the following month.

After selling some of its aviation fuel in Nigeria, the refinery also exported some of its cargo to Europe.

Aside from Nigeria, the Refinery has also exported six cargoes of jet fuel to different African countries including; Senegal, Togo, and Ghana.
