A man identified as Faisal Audu has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing a hunter identified as Saheed Awolesi in the Sagamu area of Ogun State, News About Nigeria reports.
The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.
She noted that the 20-year-old suspect was arrested by officers from the Sagamu Police Division on Sunday.
The police spokesperson stated that the hunter had reportedly gone night hunting around 9:00 p.m. on October 5, 2024, but did not return home, adding that the victim’s disappearance prompted his family and the hunters’ association to launch a frantic search for his whereabouts.
Odutola stated that the suspect involved in the hunter’s disappearance was apprehended by officers of the Ibafo Police Command, along with the hunter’s phone and motorcycle.
“Our detectives called the hunter’s mobile number, and it was answered at the Ibafo Police Station. The suspect had already been apprehended by officers from the division and was found in possession of the hunter’s phone and motorcycle.
“A jackknife, a cutlass, and a mobile phone suspected to have been stolen were found in his possession. The suspect was later handed over to the Igbeba Police Division for further investigation.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing Awolesi and stealing his motorcycle and mobile phone. He led officers to the crime scene, where the victim’s body was discovered, bearing signs of violent injuries,” she stated.
She added that the body has been recovered and taken to a mortuary in Sagamu for an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.
