Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has declared that he is willing to swear by the Quran to prove his innocence against allegations of misappropriating public funds during his eight years in office.
El-Rufai, who has been facing accusations of embezzlement, said he would turn to God for help in this challenging period.
Speaking recently, El-Rufai expressed his frustration with the accusations, stating that he has always relied on divine guidance to avoid wrongdoing.
“I was quiet to see how things would turn out, but for me, I always ask God to help me in whatever I do in life because, as a human being, I always try not to do anything wrong or betray the people’s trust,” he noted.
The former governor emphasised that if former governors and other leaders of Kaduna State were asked to swear by the Quran that they did not steal from public funds, he would willingly do the same.
“Whenever the former governors of Kaduna State and other leaders decide to take an oath swearing with the Quran that they never took people’s money, I’m also ready to swear. I didn’t go into public service to steal or take people’s money. I joined politics to serve the people of Kaduna State,” he claimed.
Despite the accusations, El-Rufai maintained that he was financially content before becoming governor and was not motivated by personal gain.
He lamented that his administration was being accused of financial misconduct without specific evidence or clarity on where the alleged missing funds went.
El-Rufai stated that he has left his fate to God, even though the situation has caused him pain.
“They are going after my allies, inviting them to the ICPC and EFCC with the intention of tarnishing their names. As for me, I had already prayed two Raka’at, leaving everything to God, seeking His judgement.”
He added, “What is happening is painful, but such is life. Whatever evil plans, witch-hunts, and lies are against us, we have reported the issue to God, and God willing, we will get justice.”
The Kaduna State House of Assembly recently indicted El-Rufai’s administration for allegedly misappropriating over N423 billion during his tenure.
