Police Nab Two Suspects For Allegedly Killing Cable Theft In Lagos

The police command in Lagos has confirmed that its operatives detained two suspects for allegedly killing a man over alleged cable theft in the state.

News About Nigeria reports that Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police public relations officer (PPRO), confirmed the arrest on Monday to NAN.

The PPRO said the deceased was simply identified as Monday while addressing journalists in an interview in Lagos.

“The Alausa Police Division received information from a concerned member of the public about the case on Sunday at about 4:00 p.m,” the police spokesperson said.

“The informant said that at about 3:00 a.m. of same date, he received a call from one of his brothers that one Monday has been lynched to death by some group of boys.

He said that the suspects and others still at large, conspired and murdered Monday after he was indicted for cable theft.

“After Monday was beaten to stupor, the suspects used copper wire to tie his neck and strangled him to death.

He said that the corpse had been recovered and evacuated to the morgue at Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, for preservation and autopsy.

The police spokesperson also added that investigation is ongoing.

Earlier, the command refuted allegations that men, women and a child were held together in a single cell at the Maroko Police Station in the Lekki area of the state.

Hundeyin clarified that the individuals were only kept in a holding area, which allows officers at the charge room to maintain visibility of detainees.

He stressed that once transferred to proper cells, detainees are separated by gender, and their phones are confiscated.
