A man (name withheld) has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for concealing gunpowder in bags of garri, News About Nigeria reports.
His arrest was made public by the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the Police, they were able to recover a large quantity of gunpowder which was concealed in the garri bag.
Ikenga also noted that the feat was achieved when its Police-led Joint Security Force was on an intelligent-driven routine patrol along the pillar-pole area of Aguata on Sunday.
Giving details, he disclosed that officers of the Force had intercepted the suspect who was carrying three bags of Garri.
Upon searching the suspect, the police discovered beneath the edible, a large quantity of gunpowder.
Ikenga further noted that preliminary information conducted by the Police revealed that the suspect was on his way to a criminal camp to deliver groceries for consumption and gunpowder for the production of improvised explosives for the gang.
He further noted that the suspect is currently in custody and assisting the police in arresting the other gang members.
The police spokesperson further revealed that during another operation, the force was able to recover one locally made pistol and live ammunition when it stormed a criminal hideout in Oba Idemili South LGA in the early hours of today.
Ikenga added that one Nelson Wisdom from Etsako East, Edo State, was also arrested during the operation.
On his part, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, reiterated the Police Command and other security agencies’ commitment to fight and eradicate criminal elements in the State.
