Nasarawa Police Arrest 12 Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Illicit Drugs

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested 12 people suspected of involvement in kidnapping and other criminal activities across the state, News About Nigeria reports.

This was revealed by the state’s Police Commissioner, Shehu Umar-Nadada, on Thursday, who noted that the recent actions have reduced crime in the region.

“The command has apprehended 12 suspected kidnappers and other criminal elements in the past week. Investigations are ongoing, and we aim to arrest more suspects,” Umar-Nadada stated.

The police have identified several vulnerable areas where kidnapping activities have been prevalent, including Lafia, Gandu near the Federal University of Lafia, the GRA/Angwan Maitasa region, and Shabu in Lafia North Local Government Area.

Shinge and the 500 Housing Estate in Lafia are also being monitored closely due to increased criminal activity.

The Commissioner also referred to the recent killing of a 19-year-old student, Anas Zubairu, in the Project Quarters area of Lafia, following the alleged collection of a N17 million ransom.

In response to the escalating threat, the Nasarawa State Police Command has intensified patrols across these districts to prevent further illegal activities and ensure the safety of residents.

In a related development, the Nasarawa State Police also arrested a suspected notorious drug trafficker during an operation on Saturday.

The suspect, Gabriel, 43, from Edo State, was found in possession of 15 bags of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp.

The police intercepted the vehicle used to transport the illicit drugs, a Toyota Camry with the registration number Lagos KSF 843 FN, at Gadabuke in Toto Local Government Area, following a tip-off.

DSP Ramhan Nansel, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest, stating, “The vehicle was intercepted at the Gadabuke area of Toto Local Council, where the suspect was arrested, and the exhibits were recovered.”

The second suspect managed to escape.

The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being made to apprehend more suspects and reduce criminal activities in Nasarawa State.
