18-Year-Old Boy Killed In Accidental Shooting In Lagos

An 18-year-old boy identified as Toheeb Akinbowale has reportedly been killed by a member of the Nigerian Hunter and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) in a shooting incident.

News About Nigeria reports that the incident happened on September 8, 2024, in the Ifako Ijaiye area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the officer mistakenly discharged his weapon, fatally hitting Akinbowale and injuring two others.

The victim was pronounced dead at the Ifako Ijaiye Hospital.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old James, was reportedly handling a double-barrel shotgun when the incident occurred.

Two additional individuals, Sodeeq and a second person, whose identity has not been confirmed, were also injured in the incident and are currently undergoing treatment at Ikeja General Hospital.

A team of detectives was dispatched to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation, including photographing the area and recovering the weapon.

James was arrested and is now in police custody as the investigation continues.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos police public relations officer, confirmed the incident on Thursday.

“It is an unfortunate incident. Our team responded promptly, and we have already begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” he said.

“The suspect is cooperating, and we have recovered the weapon used. The body of the deceased has been deposited at Ikeja Mortuary. We will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds.”
