DSS: Operatives' Presence At SERAP Office Was For Routine Investigation, Not Raid

Amnesty International has condemned the invasion of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Projects (SERAP) by officials of the Department of State Services (DSS), News About Nigeria reports.

They registered their displeasure in a statement, stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was wrong for authorising what they described as an unlawful invasion.

The organisation noted that the president is going too far in his administration’s efforts to suppress dissenting voices.

The statement reads in part, “Amnesty International received a disturbing report of the unlawful invasion of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project by operatives of the DSS. President Bola Tinubu is going too far in his government’s repressive efforts to silence dissenting voices.”

Similarly, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, has also reacted to the invasion.

He expressed concern over the invasion, stressing that security agencies must respect the fundamental rights of the organisation at all times.

“The reported invasion of the SERAP office is concerning. Security agencies must respect the fundamental rights of the organisation, its officials, and its members as guaranteed by the constitution of the country,” he stated.

Recall that operatives of the DSS invaded the Abuja office of SERAP on Monday.

The organisation has also urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately direct the DSS to cease the harassment, intimidation, and attacks on Nigerians’ rights.

Other well-meaning Nigerians and organisations have also lent their voice to the call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call for the withdrawal of the DSS operatives.
