The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a team vendor, identified as Abdulrashidu Ya’u, for allegedly killing a 20-year-old man named Hassan Garba in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Jigawa State Command, DSP Lawan Adam, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said that the victim was killed over accusations of stealing bread, milk, noodles, and petrol.
Adam noted that the suspect, who resides in Sararai village, Jigawar Tsada town in Dutse Local Government Area, committed the crime on August 19, 2024, at around 5:00 am.
According to him, upon receiving the report, a standby patrol team promptly rushed to the scene, apprehended the suspect, and conveyed the victim to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for immediate medical attention.
The victim, however, was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty upon arrival.
Adam further disclosed that the suspect admitted during interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, that the deceased had upset him by stealing his goods to the point where he had informed his parents about it, but nothing had been done.
He stated, “Upon receiving the report, a standby patrol team promptly rushed to the scene, apprehended the suspect, and conveyed the victim to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital for immediate medical attention.
“Upon apprehending the deceased at this point, he made the decision to tie him with a rope and began striking him with a whip in secret.
“Neighbours within the vicinity heard the deceased’s cries for help, but they were unable to save him until the arrival of police officers.
“The medical doctor on duty certified the 20-year-old dead upon arrival.
His remains were examined, photographed, and later released to his relatives for burial according to Islamic rite.
Adam further assured the people that upon completion of the discreet investigation, the suspect will be diligently arraigned in court to face the full wrath of the law.
