Bandits stormed the Moriki community in Zamfara State on Wednesday night, kidnapping over 10 locals, News About Nigeria reports.

Abubakar stated that the Commissioner of Police had directed the operatives to swing into action and rescue the victims.

The police spokesperson urged the people not to panic, assuring them that the victims would be rescued and returned safely to their families.

The kidnappers, according to reports, are demanding a ransom of N50 million for the release of the victims.

A resident of Moriki community who spoke on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the bandits were disturbing the community and had earlier kidnapped other locals in the community.

He stated that any time they needed money, the bandits had often attacked the community to kidnap people and kept them in captivity until ransom was paid.

According to him, the bandits claimed that their cows were killed by the Commander in the community, and attacked the community, going from house to house picking the people.

“The bandits claimed that their cows were killed by the commander in the community. They attacked the community and went from house to house, picking our people, and gave today as the deadline for us to pay the N50 million.

“Not long ago, they collected N20 million from community members to allow the locals to access their farms. The community is not secured at all,” he stated.
