A 58-year-old man has died while embarking on a 19-day dry fast, News About Nigeria reports.

His death was made public by the Lagos State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday.

According to the Police PRO, the death of the unnamed man was confirmed by his younger brother.

Hundeyin also revealed that the incident happened in the Alagbado axis of the state on Monday at about 600 a.m.

Giving details on the tragedy, the police spokesperson noted that the deceased younger brother, whose name was not also mentioned, reported the incident at the Alagbado Police Division at about 7 p.m. on Monday.

According to Hundeyin, the younger brother said his brother died while undergoing 19 days of dry fasting.

The brother also revealed that the deceased had no known health challenges before his sudden and tragic demise.

Hundeyin further noted that, upon investigation, the police found out that there was no ‘foul play’ in the matter as the deceased truly died while embarking on the fast.

He further revealed that the family is demanding to take the deceased home for proper burial.

Hundeyin said, “No foul play suspected, family demands to convey the corpse for burial.”

Speaking further, the police spokesperson implored Nigerians to be mindful of their health and the kind of fasting/spiritual activities they embark on.

He also stated that before embarking on such a long fast, they should, as a matter of importance, consult medical personnel and also be sure of the state of their health, warning that if there’s any underlying health challenge, such a fast that poses a threat should not be embarked on.
