The Nigerian Army’s 6 Battalion, based in Ibagwa, has begun the demolition of unserviceable ammunition and explosives at the 6Bn Range Area in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

News About Nigeria reports that the exercise, which started today, Monday, August 19, 2024, is scheduled to last until Thursday, August 22, 2024.

In a statement issued by Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Adebowale Adejimi, the public was urged not to panic at the sound of explosives during the demolition process.

The statement, titled “Demolition of Unserviceable Ordinances,” reassured residents that adequate safety and security measures have been put in place.

The statement read, “The demolition of unserviceable ammunition and explosives is scheduled to take place at 6 Bn Range Area in Abak LGA, from 19-22 August 2024. Consequently, the good people of Abak LGA are requested to stay off the designated exercise area. They are also requested not to panic at the sound of explosives. Adequate measures have been placed for safety and security at the range area and its environs.”

In a separate operation, the Nigerian Army successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on the Saulawa community in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The troops, who were on a fighting patrol as part of Operation Forest Sanity, encountered terrorists after clearing Maidaro and Ngade Alha villages on Friday, August 16, 2024.

According to a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Nigerian Army on Sunday, the troops engaged the terrorists in a gunfight, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists.

The troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine loaded with 23 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and 11 motorcycles, one of which was destroyed due to damage sustained during the operation.

“The troops, in their untiring commitment, have continued to deny the terrorists freedom of action and significantly undermined their capabilities. The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its determination to protect the nation and its citizens from the scourge of terrorism.”
