An accident has claimed the life of one person and left three others hospitalised in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, News About Nigeria reports.
The Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Monday.
He stated that another driver escaped lynching by an angry mob after a truck rammed into his vehicle while driving against traffic in Oleh.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that trouble started when the police on duty stopped the vehicle driving against traffic and a moving truck ran into the vehicle, which in turn crushed the Okada, passenger, and others.
The source stated that the Okada rider died instantly, leading the angry mob to set ablaze the vehicle as he escaped police arrest.
About four others were injured and were rushed to the Oleh Central Hospital and Maranatha Clinic, respectively.
“Contrary to the trending news, it was the Sienna driving against traffic that was burnt and not the police van.
“The Sienna was driving against traffic, and police stopped him as to why he should drive one way. As he stopped, an oncoming tipper lost control and ran into the Sienna, which collided with the Okada and passengers,” the source stated.
The source further noted that the truck driver was arrested by police as the Sienna driver escaped as an angry mob set the vehicle on fire.
The police have, however, warned motorists against disobeying traffic rules, stating that the rules were made to safeguard their lives and those of their passengers.
