64th Independence: Your Voices Are Heard - Tinubu Tells Nigerians

The Council of State has expressed its support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

News About Nigeria reports that this endorsement came after a meeting at the State House in Abuja, the first since Tinubu took office.

The Council, comprising former presidents and heads of state, advises the executive on policy matters.

Former presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari attended in person, while others joined virtually.

The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, briefed the Council on the country’s security situation.

He discussed the recent #EndBadGovernance protests and the events surrounding them.

The Council commended Nigerians for rejecting unconstitutional attempts to change the government during the protests.

They encouraged citizens to seek change through elections, not force.

The National Security Adviser reassured the Council that security agencies are ready to protect Nigeria’s democracy.

He stressed that any change in government must come through the ballot box, not through violence or insurrection.

The Council was briefed on the security situation before, during, and after the protests.

They were assured that security agencies are working to maintain peace and stability in the country.

The National Security Adviser’s briefing alleviated concerns and emphasised the importance of protecting Nigeria’s democracy.

He reiterated that security agencies are committed to securing the country’s territorial integrity.

Alake said the NSA briefed the council about the events surrounding the just concluded #EndBadGovernance protests.

The minister said the council commended Nigerians for “resisting any unconstitutional move to change government” during the protests.

“Of course, at the end of it, matters of state were discussed in a robust and frank manner. And the national security adviser was also on hand to present the security situation of the country,” the minister said.

“The national security adviser was also on hand to present the security situation in the country. And he did inform the council of state about the pre-, during, and post-event of the last protests, which I do not call a protest.

“I call it a movement to effect a change of regime by force, which was also resisted.

“The council thanked Nigerians at large for resisting any unconstitutional move to change the government; if anybody is not satisfied with the government, there is always an election coming, so you wait for the election and cast your vote.

“So the NSA briefed the Council on the security situation and allayed fears all round.”

Also speaking, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman, governor of Kwara and chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), told State House correspondents that the council passed a vote of confidence in the president.

“The high note of the meeting was a unanimous passage of a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces,” he said.
