The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is scheduled to announce the release of its 2024 WASSCE examination results on Monday, August 12, 2024.
This announcement will mark the end of a tense waiting period for candidates who sat for the exams earlier this year.
News About Nigeria understands that Moyosola Adesina, the WAEC’s acting Head of Public Affairs, revealed that Amos Dangut, the Head of the National Office, will make the official announcement at the Yaba headquarters in Lagos State.
This online news medium learnt that the results are being released just 45 days after the final exam paper was conducted.
In March 2022, WAEC said the use of information and communication technology had reduced the period for the processing of WASSCE results for candidates from 84 days to 45 days.
Recall that Dangut said in April 2024 that out of 1.8 million students who sat for the exam, 902,328 (49.73 percent) are males and 912,016 females (50.27 percent).
The students were tested in 76 subjects, comprising 197 papers, and were supervised by 30,000 secondary school teachers.
The WAEC had previously stated that the results would be released within 45 days of the final paper and that certificates would be printed and distributed to schools within 90 days.
“In tune with our recent tradition, the results of candidates sitting the examination will be released 45 days after the conduct of the last paper, while certificates will be printed and issued to schools in less than 90 days after the release of results,” Dangut said.
On July 30, the exam body said that there is no official date to release the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results.
It urged students and parents to remain patient and await further updates from WAEC regarding the results.
The council assured that efforts are being made to ensure the results are released promptly and accurately.
Recall that the examination ended on Monday, June 24, 2024, with the subject Wood Work, which makes Thursday, August 8, the 45th day since the examination ended.
