The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 108 suspects in connection with the recent protests that rocked the state.
News About Nigeria reports that the command’s spokesman, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued in the state.
He revealed that 90 additional suspects were taken into custody, bringing the total number of detainees to 108.
According to Abdulkarim, the suspects were arrested in various towns, including Nguru, Potiskum, and Gashua, for alleged crimes such as looting, destruction of property, and violation of the curfew imposed in the affected areas.
The police spokesperson said that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The command also appealed to members of the public to report anyone seen with stolen property, urging citizens to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining law and order.
Abdulkarim stated that normalcy had been restored in the affected areas, sending gratitude for the massive deployment of policemen.
In a related development, the Commissioner of Police in Yobe state, Mr. Garba Ahmed, has called on protesters to engage the government in dialogue to meet their demands rather than resorting to violence.
Ahmed’s plea comes as the police command works to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety.
