Tonto Dikeh, Others Invited By Police Over Defamation

As the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests sweep across the nation, prominent Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has voiced her support for President Bola Tinubu, News About Nigeria reports.

The protests, which have commenced in major cities including Lagos, Abuja, and Kano, are expected to last for ten days, despite pleas from the federal government and various groups to cancel the action.

In a surprising move, Dikeh shared a post on social media highlighting positive statistics about the country’s economic indicators during President Tinubu’s tenure.

She pointed to improvements in foreign reserves, the minimum wage, the forex backlog, oil production, and the debt-to-revenue ratio, arguing that these figures reflect efforts to improve the country’s situation.

“Statistics don’t lie: everyone is working to get this country to where we want it to be,” Dikeh wrote.

She added, “One thing about Nigerians is that if they don’t like you, nothing you do will ever be good enough for them. Let’s not deny this glaring truth. Stay safe and make wise decisions always.”

Her post sparked backlash from Nigerians, who criticised her for lacking empathy towards the struggles faced by the common citizen, particularly regarding rising fuel prices, food costs, and other daily expenses.

In response to the criticism, Dikeh stood by her position, stating, “If politics will make you unfollow me, please go ahead. No hard feelings. I wouldn’t stop supporting efforts to make this country a great place. One thing I wouldn’t do is stress about what you think about my opinion and of my choices or even block my comment section. God bless you all. Love and Light.”

Dikeh’s stance marks her as one of the few celebrities publicly supporting President Tinubu during a time of widespread discontent.

Other figures in the entertainment industry, such as Toyin Abraham and Yul Edochie, have also expressed their support for the president, contrasting with the broader call for protests from many of their peers.
