The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. has acknowledged a disruption in fuel supply affecting certain areas of Lagos State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
News About Nigeria reports that this is contained in a statement by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., on Saturday.
The petroleum company said the shortage is caused by technical difficulties encountered during the unloading process of multiple ships.
Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s chief corporate communications officer, assured that the company is working closely with relevant parties to address the issue and restore normal fuel distribution.
The NNPC urged motorists and residents to remain calm while they work to minimise the impact of fuel scarcity.
A check also revealed that fuel queues have reappeared in the FCT, neighbouring states like Nasarawa and Niger, and parts of Lagos State.
Some filling stations, which were operational, had adjusted their meters to sell fuel between N800 and N900 per liter under tight security to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
NNPC explained that the fuel supply and distribution challenges in Lagos and the FCT were due to technical issues with vessel discharge operations.
The company said that it is working tirelessly with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normal operations.
However, the NNPC in a statement said: “The NNPC Ltd wishes to state that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution witnessed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is as a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.”
The company added that it was working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in the operations.
