The Lagos State Police Command has successfully dismantled a child trafficking syndicate, arresting five suspects involved in the sale of a two-month-old baby boy.
News About Nigeria reports that this is disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Saturday.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the mother of the missing child reported that Gloria Sunday had absconded with her son on July 11, 2024.
He said detectives from the Oko-Oba Division promptly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Sunday, who confessed to selling the baby for ₦500,000 to Pastor Peter Udoh.
The statement said that further investigation revealed that Pastor Udoh resold the child for ₦1,450,000 to Loretta Nelson, who in turn sold the baby for ₦2,350,000.
The statement continued that the final buyers, Mr. and Mrs. James Uwam, were arrested during the naming ceremony of the stolen child.
“All suspects will face charges in court upon completion of the investigation,” the statement added.
This successful operation demonstrates the Lagos State Police Command’s commitment to combating child trafficking and ensuring the safety of vulnerable members of society.
In January, the Nasarawa police command said three people were arrested over an alleged baby theft at a hospital in the state.
Umar Nadada, the police commissioner in Nasarawa, confirmed the incident in Lafia, the state capital.
According to NAN, Nadada said the case was reported at the A-division police station by one Suleiman Abdullahi, the husband of the mother of the stolen baby.
The police commissioner quoted Abdullahi as saying that the baby was stolen shortly after his wife was delivered through a caesarean section (CS) at the hospital.
