Hashiru Baku, the alleged mastermind behind the murder of retired Brigadier General Harold Udokwere, has been arrested by the police.
News About Nigeria reported that the late general was killed by armed robbers at his private residence in Sunshine Estate, Abuja, in the early hours of June 21.
Two days after the incident, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, paraded the suspected killers at the command headquarters in Abuja.
He named the suspects as Ibrahim Rabiu, Nafiu Jamil, Aliyu Abdullahi, and Mohammed Nuhu, all residents of Apo, a satellite town of Abuja.
However, two of the robbers were still at large, having escaped with the deceased’s pistol.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the FCT police command from the Utako division, led by CSP Victor Godfrey, who tracked them to their hideout based on credible intelligence.
According to CP Igweh, the suspects confessed to the crime and revealed that they had stabbed the late brigadier general with a knife when he resisted them.
The knife used in the crime and the general’s phone were recovered from the suspects.
CP Igweh assured that efforts were ongoing to arrest the two remaining fugitives and recover the stolen pistol.
Addressing journalists on Monday while parading the other suspects, Igweh announced the arrest of Baku in Kano State, where he was attempting to flee the country.
“I did show you the four killers, kidnappers, and robbers that killed Brigadier-General Uwen Harold, retired. Today, I will show you the organiser of the killing and the robbery,” Igweh stated.
“We have recovered the general’s gun, his wristwatch, and his wife’s jewellery which they stole from the house.”
He explained that Baku had previously been in prison and had escaped during the Kuje Correctional Centre attack.
“Instead of him to repent, he continued with more audacity. We arrested him in Kano where he was trying to exit the country. We recovered these drugs in his residence. So, that’s what they take and they will continue to be high.”
