A man, simply identified as Olumide, has been declared wanted by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly beating his son to death, News About Nigeria reports.
The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday.
He noted that the deceased was only 19 years old and died from the impact of the injuries sustained as a result of the beating.
He also stated that the incident had been reported to the Alagbado Police Division on Tuesday.
“At about 12.00 p.m. on July 5, at about 2.00 p.m., one Olumide gave his son, Adeyemi, a deep cut under moderate correction at his right hand side with a shovel over an undisclosed offence.
“The young man was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“But when the injury became serious, he was taken to the General Hospital Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost as a result of a tetanus infection, as confirmed by the doctor on duty.
“The scene was visited by detectives from the division.
“However, the father of the victim is currently at large, and the case is under investigation,” he stated.
He further maintained that the command will intensify efforts to see to it that the suspect is apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.
Hundeyin also warned the public to desist from inflicting violence on others, no matter the circumstances, and urged them to always report such situations to law enforcement, rather than taking the law into their own hands.
According to the PPRO, offenders will be severely punished.
