The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has clarified that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) is not currently conducting any recruitment exercises.

News About Nigeria reports that the clarification comes in response to recent claims by an online publication suggesting otherwise.

This announcement was made by the board’s Secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.

Ahmed stated, “For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to inform the general public that the board is currently carrying out a recruitment process in the Federal Fire Service (FFS) only. It will commence the next stage of the exercise in August and will conclude the same before the end of September.”

Contrary to reports, the Federal Government had previously announced that the next stage of recruitment for both the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Federal Fire Service would begin in August.

However, the latest statement from the board clarifies that only the Federal Fire Service recruitment is ongoing.

Ahmed explained that the delay in concluding the recruitment process, originally scheduled to end by June 15, 2024, was due to a nationwide manpower audit conducted across various services under the board, including the Nigerian Correctional Service, NIS, FFS, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

“The board wishes to apologise for its inability to complete the process by 15th June 2024, as earlier intended. This is due to a nationwide manpower audit exercise carried out in the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Fire Service and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, which was just recently concluded,” Ahmed said.

The secretary also assured that all shortlisted candidates would be notified of the next stage of the recruitment process through their provided contact details.

“All shortlisted candidates will be duly notified of the next stage through their phone numbers and email addresses,” he added.
