The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Chief Dan Orbih.
They remain on suspension pending the conclusion of an investigation into his actions and utterances regarding the Edo State Governorship Primary Election.
News About Nigeria reports that this was contained in a statement signed by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday.
The decision was taken at the NWC’s 588th meeting on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, where the committee unanimously condemned Orbih’s actions as inconsistent with the party’s constitution and the demands of his office.
A six-member committee headed by the Deputy National Chairman (South), Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, has been set up to investigate the matter.
The NWC has also directed Orbih to refrain from participating in all meetings, activities, and programmes of the committee pending the outcome of the investigation.
The party expressed its appreciation for the support and solidarity of the people of Edo State, who are rallying behind its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
The NWC urged all party leaders, stakeholders, and members in Edo State to remain united and focused on achieving victory for the party and its candidate.
The PDP Edo State Chapter has been dealing with internal conflicts since the governorship primary election on February 22, 2024, which resulted in Asue Ighodalo becoming the governorship candidate.
As a result, dissatisfied party members took the party to court.
Last week, Justice Inyang Ekwo invalidated the primary in a judgement for case FHC/ABJ/CS/165/2024, which contested the exclusion of 378 delegates.
On Wednesday, the PDP appealed the judgement.
