Nigerian Singer Simi Apologises For Swimsuit Controversy

Nigerian vocalist, songwriter, and singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Symply Simi, has issued a cheeky apology to her fans following criticism for wearing a swimsuit at the poolside.

News About Nigeria reported that the incident occurred when Simi visited the pool with her husband, family, and friends and participated in the trending game ‘12345678’.

As the video of her playing in a swimsuit went viral, some critics chastised the mother-of-one for what they considered excessive exposure, given her married status.

In response to the backlash, Simi posted an apology video on social media, where she humorously acknowledged her sister Iyanu’s warning about her choice of attire.

Simi expressed regret for disappointing her fans and promised to wear a more conservative outfit next time.

“I just came here feeling repentant. Yesterday, I went to the swimming pool and I wore a swimsuit, guys. I’m just so sorry,” Simi said in the video.

“Honestly, I wasn’t thinking. Iyanu told me, she said ‘Sims, you cannot wear a swimsuit at the swimming pool. You are married.’ I should have known better. I’m sorry.”

She added, “Next time I go to the swimming pool, just as a sign of respect to my husband, I will wear a kaftan. I will do better; better than the best. I don’t want to disappoint you. I don’t want to give you anything to look down on me and my marriage. I’m so sorry.”

Simi’s playful and sincere apology has been met with mixed reactions, with many fans appreciating her humility and sense of humour.
