A former National Deputy Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has stated that the current economic challenges facing the nation should not be solely blamed on President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
News About Nigeria reports that during his address titled “My Thoughts on The State of Our Country in the Last 25 Years: A Time to Chart A New Direction,” delivered on Thursday in Lagos, George emphasized that the economic hardships predate Tinubu’s presidency.
He argued that a fair assessment of the current administration’s performance can only be made after it has had more time in office.
George cautioned against politicizing the economic issues, asserting that blame games will not help stabilize the economy. He said, “This is not the time for political actors to be subjective in their thinking and actions because the challenges before us are far beyond the confines of partisan politics. They (politicians) are now blaming the Bola Tinubu administration which has spent about one year in office. Government administration is not a hundred-meter dash race.”
He added, “We will advise and condemn so that in a year’s time, we can assess the methodology and performance of the government. Pitiably, some Nigerians have resorted to a blame game.”
As a member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), George also urged President Tinubu to be transparent about the country’s true state of affairs, noting that Nigerians cannot continue to suffer in ignorance.
He called on Tinubu to reorganize his economic team, highlighting that there are capable individuals across Nigeria who can offer valuable economic advice to help turn the nation around.
