Damagun’s Tenure As PDP Acting Chairman Extended

On Thursday, Ikenga Ugochinyere, a Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), accused the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of undermining the party’s interests in Rivers State.

Ugochinyere alleged that Wike and Damagum are conspiring to reinstate the 27 Rivers State lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2023.

News About Nigeria gathered that Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato South/Ideato North Federal Constituency of Imo State, made these accusations during a press conference in Abuja.

He also claimed that the acting National Chairman of the PDP has enlisted the services of Joshua Musa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a friend of the immediate former governor of Rivers State, to “file secret actions against PDP interests.”

At the press conference, Ugochinyere stated, “We have called you today to provide an update on recent developments in the PDP, following confirmed reports from last week about the PDP secretly filing papers in court to support the defected 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. These members, who left the PDP for the APC, had their seats declared vacant.

“Recall that the PDP, through its legal adviser, deliberately misled the public and party members by denying the existence of any legal process authorized by the PDP headquarters to reinstate the sacked APC lawmakers using Dr. Musa Joshua, SAN.”
