President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) Shehu Mohammed as the new Corps Marshal and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), News About Nigeria reports.

According to a letter of appointment signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on May 20, 2024, ACM Shehu Mohammed’s appointment takes effect from May 20, 2024.

The letter stated that the appointment was in accordance with Section 7 (1) of the Federal Road Safety Commission Act, 2007.

ACM Shehu Mohammed succeeds Dauda Ali Biu as the Corps Marshal of the FRSC.

The Federal Road Safety Corps is the government agency responsible for road safety administration in Nigeria, operating in all states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Founded in 1988, the FRSC is the leading agency in Nigeria on road safety administration and management, with statutory functions including ensuring highway safety, checking road worthiness of vehicles, recommending works and infrastructures to eliminate or minimize accidents, and educating motorists and the public on road discipline.

In a related development, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced that the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration will be marked with a low-key celebration.

According to Idris, the move is in line with Tinubu’s desire to serve the country efficiently and make judicious use of resources for the good of all Nigerians.

President Bola Tinubu came into power in 2023, winning the presidential seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC) party.

He emerged as the candidate of the APC. He went on to defeat his closest rival, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the general election held on February 25, 2023.

On May 29, 2023, Tinubu was inaugurated as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, succeeding former president Muhammadu Buhari.
