Fubara Under Fire As ALGON Accuses Him Of Withholding LG Funds

The Rivers State House of Assembly has raised an alarm over an alleged plot by Governor Siminalayi Fubara to demolish the Assembly Quarters on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

News About Nigeria understands that the alarm was raised during a press briefing by Speaker Martin Amaewhule immediately after a visit by the governor to the quarters on Thursday.

A visibly angry Amaewhule accused Fubara of violating a subsisting court order and stated that the building is sturdy and doesn’t require any renovation.

He added that the governor wasn’t invited to the quarters by any of the lawmakers and is therefore not needed.

According to Channels Television, another member of the House, Justina Emeji, called on the international community and other well-meaning individuals to intervene and call the governor to order.

The Amaewhule-led Assembly also dismissed claims by some lawmakers loyal to Fubara that a new Speaker was elected on Wednesday.

In a six-point statement signed by Emeka Amadi, the clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the statement clarified that there has been no change in the leadership structure of the House.

Martin Amaewhule, Dumle Maol, and Major Jack remain Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Majority Leader, respectively.

The statement further clarified that apart from the seat of Khana II constituency, which was declared vacant due to the death of the member who represented the constituency, no other seat has been declared vacant.

Additionally, Victor Oko Jumbo, Sokari Goodboy, and Adolphus Timothy, who were suspended in October last year, are yet to have their suspensions lifted.

Recall that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had earlier explained his surprise visit to the residential quarters of the State House of Assembly, which took place on Thursday.

According to the governor, the visit was part of the governor’s inspection of the 15.24-kilometre dual carriageway road project from Emohua to Abalama-Tema Junction.

He said the purpose of his visit to the assembly quarters was to assess the condition of the structures and identify areas that require rehabilitation work.
