Nigerian Army Intercepts Alleged Terrorists, Arrests Gunrunners in Adamawa

Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted a group of alleged terrorists on a mission to wreak havoc in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, News About Nigeria reports.

According to reports, the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, resulting in the defeat of the assailants.

The fleeing terrorists abandoned their weapons, which included one PKM machine gun, along with 402 rounds of 7.62 mm x 54 NATO ammunition and 110 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO.

This successful operation was conducted in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Taskforce.

In a related incident, troops also apprehended three suspected gunrunners in Sukuk Community, Madagali Local Government Area of the state. 

In a statement released on Thursday, the army said that, acting on intelligence reports, the suspects were found in possession of firearms and ammunition.

Yakubu Musa, Marcus Ziri, and Ishakwu Kumba were among those arrested, with Musa allegedly having previously acquired an AK-47 rifle for three hundred thousand naira (N300,000.00) from an unidentified individual who remains at large.

The apprehended suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation to gather information vital for dismantling networks supporting terrorism and illegal arms trade in the North East region.

“Further investigations have revealed that Musa had previously acquired an AK-47 rifle for three hundred thousand naira (N300,000.00) from a yet-to-be-identified individual who is currently at large. 

“The apprehended suspects are currently undergoing further interrogation to aid in the dismantling of the networks that support terrorism and illegal arms trade in the North East,” the statement read.
