Idahosa: Former PDP BoT Member Quits Party, Returns To APC

Charles Idahosa, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ally of Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, has announced his resignation from the party.

News About Nigeria reports that the resignation was contained in a letter dated April 29, 2024, addressed to the Chairman of Ehor Ward 1 in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Edo State.

In the letter, Idahosa stated that his decision to resign came after careful contemplation and reflection on his personal and political journey.

Idahosa, a chieftain of the party in Edo State and a former aide to ex-Governor Adams Oshiomhole, thanked the party’s community for their support and camaraderie during his time of service.

He also copied his resignation letter to the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, South-South, National Vice Chairman, State Chairman, and Uhunmwonde Local Government Chairman of the party.

In his resignation letter, Idahosa expressed his gratitude to the PDP community and stated that he remains committed to upholding the values and principles that have guided his political engagement. He also extended his best wishes to the party as it continues its important work.

Idahosa’s resignation comes as a surprise to many, given his prominent role in the party and his close relationship with Governor Godwin Obaseki. However, sources close to him indicate that he has been considering this decision for some time, and it is not related to any internal party conflicts or disagreements.

There was tension within the Edo state chapter of the PDP with the emergence of a faction last week, just ahead of the upcoming governorship election.

Led by National Vice Chairman (South-South) Dan Orbih, the faction openly declared that it would not support the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo. Orbih further distanced himself from the party’s activities by rejecting an appointment to the governorship campaign council for the September 21 election.

As the leader of the anti-Obaseki’s Legacy Coalition within the party and an ally of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, Orbih said he had not been consulted prior to the announcement of his inclusion in the council.
