Kano Building Collapse: NEMA Confirms Three Dead, Two Injured

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed on Friday that three people died in the three-storey building that collapsed at Kuntau Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, News About Nigeria reports.

The agency also confirmed that two other people were left injured in the incident.

The update on the tragedy that struck in the morning of Friday in Kano was given by the Kano NEMA Territorial Coordinator, Nuradeen Abdullahi.

Speaking to newsmen, Abdullahi revealed that the building that collapsed was still under construction.

According to him, NEMA received the distress call about the building at about 9:20 am and upon receiving the call, they quickly responded by sending their rescue team.

Abdullahi further noted that the team was able to rescue five people, among whom three were confirmed dead, while the remaining two injured persons have been taken to the hospital for proper medical attention.

He said, “We received a distressed call today at about 9:20 a.m from a good Samaritan that a three-storey building under construction collapsed at Kuntau quarters. On receiving the information, we quickly sent our rescue team to the scene.

“So far, five persons were rescued and taken to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, out of which three were confirmed dead, while two victims sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.”

Abdullahi further revealed that the rescue operation is still ongoing to ensure that none of the workers trapped in the collapsed building are left behind.

He listed the rescue teams on the ground to include the NEMA rescue team, the Kano State Fire Service, the police, the Red Cross, the NSCDC, and SEMA, among others.
