“Tough But Necessary” – President Tinubu Defends Subsidy Removal At World Economic Forum

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has tasked African leaders to collaborate and fight terrorism, News About Nigeria reports.

The President made this call while speaking at the African high-level counter-terrorism meeting hosted by the federal government on Monday.

He maintained that terrorism does not do good in society but rather serves as a clog in the wheels of a prosperous and just society designed for citizens to enjoy.

He stated that terrorism, which is a violent threat, has the intention of driving farmers away from their farms, children from their schools, and women alike through fear, adding that drastic measures have to be carried out against the menace.

“This violent threat seeks to frighten the farmer from his field, children from their schools, women from the marketplace, and families from their very homes. It wants city dwellers to cower and businesses to close.

“It craves despotism and suppression, not democracy and an enlightened society. Its goal is to cause such havoc that we doubt our democratic principles, putting societies and governments into such confusion and disarray that we begin fighting among ourselves instead of fighting the very thing that seeks our destruction,” he stated.

Tinubu noted that terrorism has been a significant burden on the continent and emphasised that it is not of Africa but an imported evil that only seems to bend and break Africans.

He declared that terrorism would not be given the chance to bend or break Africans but would be banished from the continent.

He, therefore, urged participants at the meeting to combine determined national efforts with well-tailored regional and international collaboration to fight insecurity on the continent.

The event was supported by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
