In the ongoing investigation surrounding the embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, the police have detained his female police aide-de-camp (ADC) in connection with allegations of obstructing his arrest in Abuja.
The ADC, along with other police officers attached to Bello, is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja.
Their detention follows an order by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, directing their immediate withdrawal from the former governor.
Sources within the police, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, revealed that the officers were arrested under suspicion of deliberately aiding and abetting Bello’s escape from operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC had attempted to arrest the former governor at his Abuja residence on Wednesday.
News About Nigeria reported that the Inspector-General of Police had previously ordered the withdrawal of all police officers attached to Yahaya Bello.
The withdrawal order partly read, “IG has ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to His Excellency and former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Acknowledge compliance and treat with utmost importance. Please, above, for your information and strict compliance.”
Additionally, the Nigeria Immigration Service has placed the ex-governor of Kogi State on its watchlist for alleged conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering.
The Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration signed the document, which was then circulated to the Nigeria Customs Service, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of State Services, and the Director of the National Internet Agency.
