Ahead of the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, which is slated for Saturday, April 20, 2024, the party has appointed Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, and former deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, to oversee the election.

News About Nigeria reports that Ododo will head the seven-man Primary Election Committee set up to conduct the shadow poll, while Omo-Agege will serve as the secretary of the committee.

The APC further listed other members of the primary election board to include an ex-deputy governor of Oyo State, Iyiola Oladokun; Senator Lekan Mustapha; Adefunmilayo Tejuoso; Margaret Duru; and Dr. Sani Danjuma.

According to the party, the Ondo primary election committee is responsible for conducting the election in all 18 local government areas of the state to pick the party’s flag bearer for the coming gubernatorial election, fixed for November 2024.

The committee, according to the party, was set up in line with the constitution of the APC and the electoral guidelines.

The Ondo APC has now screened and accredited six aspirants, from whom the party’s flagbearer will emerge.

The governorship aspirants jostling for the seat in the hotly contested primary election include the current governor of the state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; the senator representing Ondo South district, Jimoh Ibrahim; the senior advocate of Nigeria, Olusola Oke; the former president of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Francis Faduyile; the mechanical engineer, Dr. Funmi Waheed-Adekojo; and the APC National Vice Chairman (South West), Isaac Kekemeke.

Other candidates include Akinfolarin Samuel, Dr. Soji Ehinlanwo, Okunjimi Odimayo, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, and Gen. Ohunyeye Olamide, Morayo Lebi, Ifeoluwa Oyedele, and Garvey Oladiran Iyanjan.
