Nigerian singer Portable, known for his generosity in showering fans with cash, has made a heartfelt plea to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to spare him from prosecution for his past actions involving the Naira.

News About Nigeria reports that to avoid trouble with the EFCC, Portable took to social media to address the issue directly.

During an Instagram live session on Tuesday, the musician pleaded with the EFCC to forgive him for his previous actions and assured his fans that he would no longer engage in the practice of spraying money.

“I didn’t deface the Naira. I help a lot of people. After God na government, please forgive me if you have videos of me spraying money, no more spraying of money. My fans, if I no longer spray money, after God na government, no more spraying of money. If it’s about money, open bank accounts, and let’s make transfers,” he said.

Portable’s plea comes in the wake of increased scrutiny and prosecution by the EFCC against those who abuse the naira, including high-profile figures like Bobrisky and Cubana Chief Priest.

Last week, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months imprisonment without the option of a fine for abusing the naira.

Similarly, Cubana Chief Priest was arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for similar charges.

After pleading not guilty, Cubana Chief Priest was granted bail in the sum of N10 million.

Meanwhile, the CBN has said that activities such as spraying banknotes at social events, writing on them, stapling them, tearing them, dancing or stamping on them, staining them with oil or ink, selling currency banknotes, and tampering with them constitute the abuse of the naira.
