A day old baby that was abandoned on Alhaji Masha Road, Surulere, have been rescued and handed over to the Lagos State Police Command, News About Nigeria reports.
This development was confirmed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Wednesday.
He said that the baby was rescued by a social worker attached to a hospital in Surulere area, who then reported the incident to the police on Monday.
According to him, the baby was found inside a polythene bag, abandoned by an unknown person(s) right on the road.
He, however, noted that the baby has been taken to Randle General Hospital, Surulere, and is responding to treatment, while investigation into the matter is ongoing.
“The baby was evacuated and taken to Randle General Hospital, Surulere and is responding to treatment.
“Investigation into the incident is on-going,” he stated.
Earlier on, a day-old baby girl was found, abandoned close to a church by the roadside in the Ikorodu Local Government Area of Lagos State.
A resident on her way to a store in the area had heard her crying helplessly by the road and raised the alarm to attract other persons in the area.
When no one claimed the baby, the resident, while suspecting that the baby’s mother abandoned her at the location at midnight, reported the case to the Ikorodu Police Division.
“The baby, believed to be one day old, has been taken from the scene, and sent to the Ikorodu General Hospital, for treatment. The Family Support Unit of the Ikorodu Division is conducting a preliminary investigation into the case,” Hundeyin stated.
