Nigerian songwriter Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has chided netizens for demanding that the senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, apologise to his church member, Ayim Vera.

Enenche had openly rebuked and termed Vera a liar while she was testifying about graduating with a BSC in law from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

News About Nigeria reports that social media went agog yesterday after a clip from the church’s service emerged with the NOUN graduate glorifying God for breaking the ’embargo’ in her life and family.

She revealed that she became the first graduate from her family when she graduated on Saturday.

She had also attributed her success to the ‘fire’ on the lives of Pastor Enenche and his wife, Becky Enenche, noting that although she struggled to complete her education, she was still able to graduate to the glory of God.

While still testifying, Pastor Enenche interrupted her, querying the authenticity of her testimony as she noted that she graduated with a BSC in law.

He further noted that she was lying and asked her to return to her seat, adding that, the church does not condone lies in the name of testimonies.

However, it was later discovered that she is a police officer who indeed graduated from the department of Law in NOUN and has her name published in the school’s graduate list.

Upon the discovery, many netizens flooded social media to demand that the clergyman tender a public apology to the woman.

This, according to them, is because calling her a liar has shattered her reputation and she doesn’t deserve that.

Reacting to this call, 73-year-old Charly Boy, asked netizens to quit demanding apology from Pastor Enenche on the grounds that lawyers like Vera, who are not qualified are the ones that are usually used to rig elections.

He further noted that it is obvious that she went to the school for the certificate, not to acquire knowledge.

He, however, urged Pastor Enenche to take it easy on his members adding that not all Nigerians are fluent in English Language as it is not their mother tongue.

His post on X reads, “Which kind apology wey dem want pastor Paul Enenche to apologize? No be dis kin lawyers and professors them dey use rig election? The sad truth is that a lot of us never went to school to acquire knowledge… they only went to school to acquire that certificate. But oga pastor try take am easy no be we all sabi speak correct English. Na em make I dey blow my pigeon english bcos English is not my language. I wish I can only speak my mother tongue like the Chinese.”
