Security Guard In Amotekun Net For Stealing Nine Air Conditioners

The Osun State Amotekun Corps has apprehended a 25-year-old man, identified as Micheal Eze, who works as a private security guard, for allegedly stealing nine air conditioners in Osogbo, the state capital, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement issued by the corps Commander, Brig-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), it was revealed that the suspect, hailing from Ebonyi State, was arrested after reportedly selling the stolen air conditioners to scrap buyers in Osogbo.

The arrest came after the owners of a house located in GRA, Osogbo, where Eze was employed as a security guard, reported the theft of their air conditioners to the Amotekun Corps.

Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing the air conditioners, each valued at N400,000, and selling them to scrap buyers in Osogbo for a mere N5,000 per unit. Eze further admitted that this was not his first time stealing from his employer.

“The suspect was arrested on Monday after the owners of the house he was engaged to guard in GRA, Osogbo, reported to Amotekun that their air conditioners had been stolen.

“After his arrest, he confessed to having stolen and sold the air conditioners, worth N400,000 each, to scrap buyers in Osogbo for N5,000 per one,” Adewimbi said.

Brig-Gen. Adewinmbi stated that two of the stolen air conditioners were recovered from the buyers to whom Eze had sold them.

Following his apprehension, the suspect has been handed over to the Director of the State Security Service for further investigation and prosecution.

The Amotekun commander urged members of the public to collaborate with security agencies in the state to combat crime by providing timely and relevant information that can assist in thwarting criminal activities.

He said collective efforts are important to rid the state of crime and ensure the safety and security of all residents.
