After battling with his life for hours, Nollywood actor Pope Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, has been confirmed dead.
Pope reportedly drowned after his boat capsized in the Anam River in Anambra State while returning from a movie shoot.
It was gathered that Pope and four other persons whose identities have not been revealed were in the boat that capsized.
On visiting the actor’s official Instagram account, News About Nigeria found out that the last post by the actor was a video he shared yesterday.
In the video, Pope was in a boat alongside four others travelling to the movie location.
The actor, who was terrified by the wave from the water while in the boat, noted that he was too young to die as he was an only child and had three children to raise.
He further lamented how scarred he was, noting that he felt like his intestine was already out.
His caption on the video reads, “See me lamenting. The risk we take to entertain you: crossing river 9ja yesterday with no life jacket. a wahooooo. Who does that?”
A few hours after the post, video clips of the actor, who was lying lifeless after drowning, emerged on social media, with his colleagues confirming the tragedy.
However, in a sharp turn of events, reports came in again that the actor was still alive.
According to videos emerging on social media, he was taken to a mortuary where the attendant refused to deposit his body on the grounds that he was still alive.
He was then taken to a herbalist for some traditional incantations and subsequently taken to the hospital for proper medical attention.
After battling for his life for a few hours in the hospital, the actor was then confirmed dead medically.
Confirming his untimely death, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Emeka Rollas, who had earlier revealed that he was alive, explained that the actor could not make it.
While mourning him, Rollas revealed that he died alongside one person, while three other crew members are yet to be found.
He further prayed that God would give the actor’s family the fortitude to bear the loss and that his soul would rest in peace.
