Katsina Governor Declares Extra Holiday for Eid-el-Fitr Celebration

The Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, has declared Friday, April 12, 2024, as a non-working day in the state.

This decision is to allow workers to fully enjoy the Eid-El-Fitr festivities with their families, News About Nigeria reports.

The announcement comes despite the Federal Government extending the Eid-el-Fitr public holidays to Thursday, April 11.

Earlier, the federal government had only declared Tuesday and Wednesday as public holidays, with Thursday being added later due to the confirmation that Eid-el-Fitr would not happen on Tuesday but Wednesday.

However, in a recent announcement, the Katsina State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Bala Zango, confirmed the Friday holiday.

He conveyed the governor’s wishes for a joyous and peaceful Sallah celebration to the people of the state.

He also urged citizens to prioritise security and pray for peace during the festivities.

“Gov Radda then wishes the good people of Katsina state a happy and peaceful Sallah celebration. He further urged people to be security conscious and pray for peace to reign in the state and the nation at large as they celebrate this year’s ED-FITR,” the statement added.

The Muslim event, Eid-el-Fitr, signifies the conclusion of fasting observed during the holy month of Ramadan, which commenced on March 11, 2024.

On this festive day, prayers are held at mosques, and people exchange greetings, pastries, tea, and small gifts.

Traditionally, believers wear new clothes, exchange gifts, and give alms known as zakat al-fitr to the poor.

Muslims worldwide gather for communal prayer at dawn on the initial day of Eid al-Fitr. The festivities extend for three days.
