Kidnapped UNIZIK Student Regains Freedom

News reaching News About Nigeria is that Francisca Chioma, a student of the Department of Science Education at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), who was abducted last Friday, has regained freedom.

Her release was disclosed by a Facebook influencer, Emeka Nobis, in a post he shared on his verified Facebook page on Tuesday.

Although Nobis did not specify whether ransom was paid for her release, he noted that Chioma was released by her kidnappers today.

While appreciating God for sparing her life, the influencer also appreciated everyone who contributed towards the ransom demanded by her abductors.

Nobis further stated that Chioma was advised to visit the hospital for proper medical attention before she would give an official statement on what happened and how she was released.

He said, “Just got news that Francisca Chioma has been released by the kidnappers. Thanks to everyone who supported. God bless your beautiful souls. There’s feedback I got concerning monies raised and the eventual release. We’ve asked for Francisca to visit the hospital for tests, see a psychologist, rest for 2 days and an official statement to be made, thereafter. I lack words, but we thank God for her life being spared.”

Recall that Chioma’s abductors had communicated with her family to demand a N10 million ransom but after much negotiation, they pegged it at N2 million.

Following their demands, her friends and schoolmates took to social media to solicit funds, as the kidnappers had fixed today as the deadline for payment, threatening to take her life if it was not met.
