With the governorship primaries in Ondo State fast approaching, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has amassed a sum of approximately N720 million from the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms.
News About Nigeria reports that a total of 16 aspirants, comprising 14 male and 2 female contenders, have thrown their hats into the ring in the quest for the party’s ticket ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
The male aspirants who have gotten the forms include Governor Lucky Ayiedatiwa, Olusoji Ehinlanwo, Jimi Odimayo, Jimoh Ibrahim, and APC National Vice Chairman (South West) Isaacs Kekemeke.
The other male aspirants are Wale Akinterinwa, Olugbenga Edema, Olusola Oke (SAN), Olamide Ohunyeye, Morayo Lebi, Oladiran Iyantan, Prof. Francis Faduyile, Mayowa Akinfolarin, and Ifeoluwa Oyedele.
They were each charged N50 million.
However, to ensure inclusivity, the party extended a reduced rate of N10 million for the expression of interest form to female contenders. Those who benefitted from the slashed rate are Funmilayo Adekojo and Funke Omogoroye, as well as persons living with disabilities (PWD).
The sale and collection of forms commenced on March 27 and concluded on April 3, 2024.
The aspirants are required to complete and submit their forms to the Directorate of Organisation by Friday, April 5.
The party announced on Wednesday that it will use direct primaries to select its candidate for the upcoming elections.
This decision was communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a letter notifying them of the primaries scheduled for April 20th.
It is understood that the aspirants have begun intense lobbying of party members to support their bids to clinch the party’s ticket.
