APC Accuse Fubara Of Pushing To Stop Rivers Assembly From Sitting

'Fubara Is Just A Governor, Not Rivers Political Leader' - Senator Abe

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Thursday of pushing for a court injunction to stop the Rivers State House of Assembly from further sitting.

According to the caretaker committee chairman of the APC, Tony Okocha, who said this at a press conference held in Port Harcourt, the essence of the court order is to declare the Assembly “illegal”.

Okocha noted that the APC would not hesitate to petition the National Judicial Council (NJC) if the governor proceeds with the decision to block or truncate the proceedings of the Assembly.

He further stated that the state assembly is working for the benefit of Rivers State, while Governor Fubara is busy pushing and looking for ways to stop them because they have refused to dance to his tune.

Okocha also stated that Fubara should abide by the terms of their agreement by re-presenting the state’s 2024 budget, as it is unlawful to run a state without an approved appropriation bill.

News About Nigeria reported that the 27 lawmakers who are loyal to the governor of Rivers State and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had recently threatened to revisit their impeachment proceedings against Fubara as a last resort to uphold the nation’s constitution.

This, according to them, is because the governor has refused to abide by all the Abuja peace agreements, pointing out that he has continued to act outside the law, including running the state without an approved budget.

It can be recalled that Fubara survived impeachment by the lawmakers last October when he had a feud with Wike, his estranged political godfather.

The lawmakers had dropped the impeachment threat following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the political crisis that rocked the state.
