Deputy Police Commissioner Commits Suicide In Oyo

Gbolahan Oyedemi, a deputy commissioner of police employed with the Force Criminal and Investigation Department in Alagbon, Lagos State, has committed suicide in his residence in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

According to reports, he hung himself on Monday after returning to spend the Easter holiday in his hometown.

According to a family member who talked to newsmen anonymously, that was not the first time the deceased returned home for the holidays; typically, he would travel to his hometown for the Easter celebrations.

The source added that no one is aware of the reason for his suicide because he typically lives alone in his village and was found dead only on Monday.

“Yes, he committed suicide. His body was found hanging in his house yesterday (Monday). He stays alone, and he normally comes home for Easter celebrations. This time, he told his aides to go and celebrate with their family members in their various homes. Only God knows what could have prompted him to commit suicide,” the source stated.

“He was formerly staying with his mother in the same house he built for her around the Randa area of Ogbomoso. Later, he built another house located at Petros Academy Street, Federal Lowcost area, and he thereafter moved to the new building. He was unmarried.”

As of the time of filing this report, both Lagos State Police Command and Oyo State Police Command have yet to speak officially on his tragic demise.

News About Nigeria gathered that Oyedemi was the Aide de Camp to the late former Governor of the State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, during his 11-month tenure as de facto governor in 2006.
