Kidnappers Abduct UNIZIK Student Travelling For Burial

The Delta State Police Command has successfully rescued nine students who were abducted along the East-West Road in Ughelli, Delta State.

News About Nigeria gathered that the abduction occurred on Monday.

Confirming the rescue, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, took to social media late Monday to announce the positive development.

He quoted a report from Channels TV and wrote, “All nine of the victims have regained their freedom pls.”

According to reports, the students were travelling in a minibus when they fell victim to the abduction.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear.

Bright had earlier informed Channels TV that the abductees “may have been students who were returning from their school in Calabar, Cross River State on Friday night.”

Fortunately, the bus driver escaped unharmed during the abduction.

It was noted that the kidnappers had not made any ransom demands, and the police were quick to rescue the abducted students.

Bright assured the public that the Delta State Police Command was fully committed to ensuring the safe return of the students.

This incident comes less than a month after the abduction of 137 schoolchildren from the LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kaduna State on March 7.

Tragically, the ordeal resulted in the loss of a teacher, Mallam Abubakar, who died due to complications while in captivity.

Following their rescue, Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, pledged to provide free education to the rescued schoolchildren.

Additionally, he noted that the students received counselling and therapy from psychologists to help them cope with the traumatic experience.
